What happens in a lesson?

Lessons are quite a revelation. There is no pressure to try hard to succeed. In fact it is the opposite, with the focus being on learning to respond to any situation with less effort and tension.

Simple everyday situations like sitting, standing, and lying down are used to bring your fundamental habits to your awareness. Then begins the process of slowly undoing the layers of habit, and allowing you to return to a more natural, easier way of using your body. The teacher uses a combination of gentle manual guidance and expert observation to enable you to begin the process of re-educating your body-use.

After you become more aware and more able to apply your newly improved body-use in the lessons, you are gradually encouraged to transfer these skills to your daily activities and become more poised, balanced and co-ordinated in the challenges of daily life.

Where should I start?

Call Rosalie on 07983 639452 for a free 15 minute consultation, or if you are ready to begin, book a full 60-minute consultation where Rosalie will take your full case history and give you your first 'lesson' and hands-on experience of the Alexander Technique. Although one can feel lighter, freer and better co-ordinated after just a few sessions, a full course of 20 to 30 lessons is advised to help undo habits that have developed over a long period of time.

To learn the technique it is advisable to have one to one sessions because everyone is so individual in their body-use habits.

Groups can be a great introduction to the technique and Rosalie often runs introductory workshops. She also runs special pregnancy and birth classes for small groups of four participants.

"The sessions we had were some of the most relaxing hours of my life." Katie Smart, mother and psychic healer
